X Topic Abstract

If you are reading this, you would probably know the importance of QA in software business. And when we think about QA, what comes to our minds is TESTING. We have heard and experienced how testing is context driven. This context in most cases is product/domain knowledge. If this is how the paradigm is set, why do companies hire new leaders for QA and Testing? This question has been answered and answered well by several excellent QA leaders over the years. And at this phase of my career, I am busy answering this right now. I would like to talk to you about my experience in this topic.

This will be a quick walk-through about things all of us should watch out for to build a long term career in Software Quality domain, whether in technical career path or managerial. Format will be fast discussion based on a short presentation.

X Topic Abstract

Most software projects fail because of a lack of communication between developers Business and Users. Developers think they understand what to code, Business believe they have communicated the problem to the developers and users cannot use the software because it is not what they asked for and does not solve their problem.

BDD/ATDD seeks to involve all stakeholders at every step of the development cycle in an agile way. So that when the project is finished what is delivered is what is asked for and it is what is expected.

In this talk we will look at how to use the Fitnesse tool in a BDD/ATTD fashion with an agile methodology to get all stakeholder involved in the development project. We will see how to write acceptance tests in plain English that business understands, and at the end of the day how passing test can give confidence to clients and users. FitNesse enables customers, testers, and programmers to learn what their software should do , and to automatically compare that to what it actually does do

Lastly we will look at how we can automate this using Continues Integration tools.

X Topic Abstract

The focus of this topic is to demonstrate the subtle change in approach to automation by managing it the same as the development discipline and the benefits that it can bring towards your journey in DevOps.

Through this talk we will look at the following key elements to the approach and how it applies practically in Agile projects:

Testing pyramid - 70%, 20% and 10% split
Insight and visibility - less code, more convention and consistency
Patterns and guidelines - documentation check lists, building blocks, layering, components, foster reuse
Test automation IS development - same toolset, same workflow and the same skills
