Topic Abstract

One of the significant challenges in an Agile adoption is the review of the delivery model. Most of the time, this challenge is based on how we can mix the traditional phases/steps of software development into only one body focused on creating and delivering value. The success of an Agile team depends on how we build a healthy combination amongst different roles and competencies. For this reason, the activity of agile testing is an essential ingredient to earn good results with an agile adoption.

In this session, we will present and discuss in a more interactive way, some stories and concepts about how we can create a real agile team. Especially, about how agile testers and developers can collaborate with one another regarding performance results, collective work-products and personal growth to avoid the temptation of falling into sub-groups and mini-waterfalls inside the iterations.

Topic Abstract

Performance depends on what we can do and what we want to do. Therefore success is requires both ‘capability’ and ‘motivation’. Capability is trainable but motivation is not so in many ways motivation is the most important part of the equation. Mark will cover the difference between ‘project management’ and ‘project leadership’, and how to lead at the highest levels it is very helpful to understand the seven fundamental levels of human motivation. This maximmises the chance of success on all projects especially the most complex ones remembering that people are always a key component of getting the project done ot one extent or another (see range of clients mark has helped https://www.marktwoconsulting.com/about-mark2/marktwo-clients )

Topic Abstract

Businesses must keep up with rates of speed and changes in digital business or risk losing revenue, decreased operational efficiencies and market share. Therefore, the need of the hour is to speed up release cycles while ensuring agility to meet ever evolving digital business needs. Digitalization and increased levels of embedded technologies throughout organizations speed up the rate at which organizations needs to perform. Release cycles are monthly, weekly, daily or even hourly phases; companies such as Facebook and Amazon operate at incredible speeds with releases every hour. This requires the following three dimensions to be addressed collectively and not individually:

- HIGHER SPEED TO MARKET : This requires a Paradigm shift towards DevOps. DevOps require In-Sprint Automation to enable Continuous Integration and Continuous Testing work in tandem. We cannot wait for n+1 Sprint cycle or Hardening of sprints to complete automation.

- LOWER COST : 60% of the cost allocated for testing is spent on creating automated test cases. With transformational projects in pipeline to ride the digital wave the spent on Testing is going to rise to 30% of the IT projects spent. To reduce this cost we need a solution which can create automated test cases non-intrusively: Robotize it and reduce the cost of testing below 18% of the total spent on IT projects.

- BETTER QUALITY : While Automation is necessary and the Digital business processes still evolving, it is necessary to ensure that the Test & Business coverage is 100%.

During this session we will address all the three Dimensions and address the creation of solution. We at Tech Mahindra have Industrialized this solution and implemented at 40+ marquee clientele. With ~16% organization who have already adopted DevOps and further 31% waiting in the wings to adopt DevOps in next two years, the solution we shall discuss will be imperative for the health and survival of the QA organization as such.
