X Topic Abstract

Spark will be a gamechanger for analytics and is emerging as a de-facto analytics “operating system”. Systems of Record databases can leverage analytics abilities of Spark. This session will take you through examples of loading data from transactional databases into Spark and accessing those Spark datasets through developer friendly interfaces such as Scala, Python & Java. We will show how standards that most developers are familiar with today such as SQL & JDBC can be utilized in Spark. We will also demonstrate examples of using Spark to easily join data across heterogeneous data sources. Join us to get a headstart on how Spark can provide a value add in your database environments.

X Topic Abstract

Providing Real Time insights for huge volumes of Customer activity and transactions is essential for merchants to grow their business, create better customer experiences and in collecting feedback for our Products development lifecycle. At PayPal, we have built a Lambda architecture based Real Time Analytics pipeline with Kafka, Spark (on Yarn) and Druid. Live events flow into Kafka and also in HDFS. Batch and Real Time Streams of data are processed in Spark and pumped into Druid, which provides Interactive analysis on it. In this session we will present how we used the power of Kafka, Spark and Druid to build a robust and scalable Real Time Analytics platform. We will go over code snippets covering all integration points and review the benefits of using these over the other comparable technologies. Finally, we will see some of our Real Applications running on this pipeline. Technologies Used: Kafka, Spark, YARN, Druid, D3

X Topic Abstract

Even though there are a plethora of Devops tools available, most new developers don't take cognizance of them. A lot of unnecessary time is spent in deploys, repeating boring stuff again and again. The main goal behind this talk is to get developers to make deployments repeatable and automated thereby ensuring better sleep at night. The main tools that would be used are Terraform (for server setup), Ansible (for server configuration) & Jenkins (for pipelining). A template of the slides can be found at: http://go-talks.appspot.com/github.com/exotel/talks/exotel-devops/devops.slide#1
