Key Features

1. Learn from Open Source Communities and apply Inner Source.

2. Taking back control - Deploying faster with less cost and staying in control.

3. Implementing DevOps and Making it Actually Stick.
If you've ever been involved in promoting cultural changes within an organization, you may have experienced something even more disheartening than flat-out rejection: a full rollback of cultural change and a decade-long resentment of anyone remotely associated with the implementation. This has happened at countless organizations with agile, with SOA, with virtualization – and it's starting t - happen with DevOps

4. DevOps Anti-Patterns
- Ask ten people what DevOps actually means and you'll probably get ten different answers. DevOps covers s - many different aspects that it's almost easier t - define it by what it isn't than by what it is. For most of the great ideas, values and principles that are associated with DevOps, there's almost always an opposite practice, which is hardly surprising seeing as how DevOps evolved t - counter these ineffectual practices.

5. Measurement is the next important aspect and placed in the feedback process. A successful DevOps implementation should measure performance, process, and even people metrics

6. Cultural Change - Effective teams are essential for the delivery of reliable software and business benefit.

7. Sharing of ideas -stories of problems and success is essential and for the team t - realize and treat the problem as the enemy and not each other. Sharing of ideas opens the channels of feedback and s - leads t - improvement.

8. Interactive and discussion based not just lectures!

9. Minimum use of PowerPoint!

10. Real life case study presentations

11. Chance t - have your say and put questions t - the experts

12. Up t - the minutes issues covered

X Topic Abstract

Today, CI and DevOps environments, especially on Open Source projects for multiple frameworks, platforms, languages and kernels are largely focused on build verification and functional verification. Performance and related aspects are generally considered not crucial for this stage of testing and evaluation. However, specifically in the case of Open Source technologies, leaving performance issues for later in the cycle means a longer cycle in getting the changes reviewed, agreed on and upstreamed to make it part of a release. The Systems Performance team I lead developed an innovative way to plug into DevOps, CI and CT environments to help identify, evaluate, improve and upstream performance related issues and changes early in the cycle to ensure quick turnaround of such issues. The session will deal with the mechanism to be adopted by any organization or team that is interested in early performance evaluation and fixes, with a specific focus on Open Source technologies of any type.

We are hearing all over, " Yes, cloud is the big thing" , "we are in the journey", "Let us not miss the band wagon" , " If we are not in cloud ,then we are technologically lacking" etc.

What has cloud got us? Are we really using it for the fullest? What is the potential and are we playing with full throttle? Is this still a maze and understood for the convenience?

How do we reap the full benefits and capabilities thrown at us? Are we too scared to change the foundation of Application development landscape and can it take away few of the recent movements like devops as a stream.....!!

This talk is an open discussion on my view points on some of the above topics but not limited to. In the end I will put forward a new way of thinking, which will change the landscape and architecture thinking of application/ software development. All these will be based on experience which yielded many success and few failures!!

X Topic Abstract

Most of us these days develop applications and deploy them on servers, either on-premises or in the cloud. We need to plan well ahead in time as to how much server, storage and database we need. We also need to plan for deploying all the hardware and software necessary to run the application.

The question here is, if is it possible to avoid all this planning? Are we looking for a new model that can handle all the underlying infrastructure deployment for us? This session is going to describe about serverless architecture and application in detail. The session will also explore to build microservices using serverless architecture

Topic Abstract

Fast cloud provisioning does not make IT Agile. Today cloud maturity is towards 'Application Centric Cloud'. Moving code (and Application) from “Development” to “QA” to “Staging” to “Production Ready” solution package in warp speed is the key to success in today’s era. We have been using Spinnaker & Jenkins, as DevOps tools of choice, to help us achieve these DevOps goals of Continuous Integration and Continuous deployment with Release Process Automation.

Topic Abstract

Devops has come a long way from being purely sysadmins who could script to developers who can code. But as the world around us evolves, so do our processes. While point & click has been useful (Jenkins), it never scales. We know that at scale, only scripts can save us and get the job done. The point & click systems evolved to run scripts in the background. Now, with the advent of messaging platforms, we have a new channel of communication. Messaging platforms (such as Slack) allow developers to talk to a bot and deploy new code, query for running instances and fetch monitoring data. All this is possible without having to learn a new system and new paradigms. Github's hubot is one such example in this direction. During this talk, I hope to demonstrate the power of a chat platform with respect to Devops.

Speaker Profile

A a veteran of multiple startups, Arpit is currently a Senior Engineer in the Infrastructure team at Exotel. He is responsible for all things that scale. He has had an avid interest in Devops and believes that the quality of Devops processes reflects on the quality of the team & company at large.

Demonstrate how IaC - "infra as code" enables teams to manage and collaborate on large scale infra making fault proof automated one click deployments possible. Providing the advantages of version control. Learn the nuances of Infrastructure as code, Phoenix environment, Immutable servers & such.

Every enterprise would like to automate their deployments, aiming for a one click deployment removing any human errors. After attending this talk, the attendee will get a framework on how to implement one such system, which is resilient, very efficient and completely scalable. In this talk I would like to share with you my experience of having architected a fully automated system for the Airport which is the gateway to South India. I will demonstrate from the ground down on how the infrastructure and environment can be defined in simple human readable plain text up to how in one click, it can be orchestrated to provision the environment, configure it, build, test and deploy the fully functional app, all from the same repository. All this using the readly available open source tools and leading Cloud platforms. Figure out how Packer.io, configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet or Chef, Cloud platforms, CI tools like Jenkin’s, Go.CD can be improvised to automate the creation environments and app deployment at the click of a button. Walk away being an expert in who understands what is Phoenix environments, Immutable Servers, Software Defined Environments, XaaS along how Infrastructure as code can be implemented in your organization to reap its innumerable benefits.

Topic Abstract

In Agile IT Organizations, teams are strongly discouraged to do upfront Project planning. Due to absence of conventional Project and Release management, it becomes a challenge for the teams to plan and manage periodic releases. Often customers complain about not receiving deliverables on time from the IT teams even after adopting Agile.

My presentation will help teams to understand how to do Agile release management to deliver Minimum Viable Product in multiple iterative releases. Every organization today tries to focus on doing faster delivery of value to the customer to respond to a continuously changing business environment. But primarily there is a lack of understanding in people about the need of right use of Engineering tools and practices to support frequent development and releases. Proper Agile release management needs to ensure that there is a right understanding of the need of right agile practices and tools to make continuous development and releases.

Speaker Profile

Ranan Bhattacharya, Senior Manager of Technology Skills Transformation Program at Tesco Bengaluru possesses specialized experience in Organizational Transformation to deliver faster value to the customers.

He is presently working as a business transformation advisor and technology reengineering partner for the internal teams in Tesco Bengaluru, focused on delivering better value to the customers. During his 15 years career he managed high performing, cross-functional, culturally diverse teams spread over geographies working mainly on the disruptive technologies like Social Computing, Cloud Computing & Mobile development.

He has done 'Executive Program on Business Management' from IIM, Kolkata after pursuing Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata.

X

Topic Abstract

Focuses on the automation alone, might not get the full power of CD as it requires a change in the way the team works together to leverage the power of small and frequent deployments. And that's where DevOps comes into the picture. Even though the name DevOps can be assumed as Dev + Ops, in reality, it is the collaboration among the entire organisation i.e. mainly the collaboration between the Business Team, the Development team and the Operations team to achieve the goal of delivering maximum value to the end users.

In this talk, I would like to share my experiences while working in the “DevOps”y way with our customers. Being a consultancy firm we also had the challenge of changing our customer's’ perspective about how to deliver software, apart from actually delivering the software.

The talk focuses on the sharing experiences around:

1. Planning - planning together as the entire team and planning “just enough”
2. Developing - by keeping the guideline of “always deployable”
3. Releasing - the painless push button releases and monitoring

The collaboration across the team [i.e. among the business, development and operations teams] are important to achieve the above in a fluent and smooth manner.

Just letting the team doing things collaboratively is not sufficient, there should be an environment which allows the team to “thinking together” too. That's why it is important to have frequent retrospectives which become a platform for continuous improvement.
