X Topic Abstract

Ever been asked to defend the value of your testing team? Or do you have senior managers asking how good or bad the quality of your product is? Or they want to know how much money you have saved the company by your efforts? You're not alone! I will take you through the journey I have been on to start to answer these questions, with meaningful data that goes beyond a simple Code Coverage metric. The complexity of code, the number of bugs found, as well as the types of testing you execute, all contribute to the overall quality of the system and must be incorporated with your measures.

I will show you how I have taken these factors and more into consideration in order to create a clear measure by which I can assess the current state of quality across our product teams. This is also vital to see whether the quality initiatives I champion are having the desired impact. Team technical leads are able to weigh into this system as well to override certain aspects based on their contextual knowledge, ensuring that we end up with something that all stakeholders can buy in to.

X Topic Abstract

As digital transformation sweeps all industries, it is becoming important for companies to serve their customers just in time as they expect exceptional experience and responsive services. Companies must therefore evolve and transform to adopt digital mindset.

This new paradigm is definitely quite disruptive in the sense that it is changing the ways in which the companies used to deliver their software. Now, their business existence hinges on a simple truth of delivering Software Quality@ Speed.

In order to deliver towards such business objectives, QA/Testing function is rapidly re-inventing itself. It is for this reason that there is an increased adoption of agile and DevOps and increase in automation across quality gates.

Continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) will be successful only if there is a robust Continuous testing mechanism.

In this presentation, we will see how Continuous Testing (CT) plays an integral part in the delivery cycle and which aspects of it need to be considered for making it successful. I am going to talk about how companies are approaching CT that's built upon key principles of collaboration, test automation and suitable tooling & its integration to overall ecosystem of CI/CD.

X Topic Abstract

Learn how to write automated checks in a way that is fast, reliable, maintainable and becomes a crucial part of your continuous delivery pipeline.

The advantages of automated checks are well known, they save testers, who are trapped, working through mundane manual test cases over and over again to check for regressions. Unfortunately, their disadvantages are also well known, being prone to unreliable results and a high cost of maintainability. I show you how to overcome the pains associated with writing and running automated checks and turn them into an integral part of your continuous delivery pipeline.

I share my experience in writing an automated checking framework using Selenium. I describe how our deployment pipeline utilises this automated checking framework to give important information on releasability. I demonstrate how to structure your code with re-usable and flexible components, making it less prone to flakiness of results, easier to update and easier to understand. And I reflect on problems I have faced and overcome in 7+ years of writing automation code.

Key Takeaways:

• Learn how to target and integrate your automated checks to be a beneficial slice of your continuous delivery pipeline.
• Discover how to boost the reliability, maintainability and usefulness of your automated checks by following a simple set of guidelines.
• Be equipped to improve your existing automated checking framework, or start a new framework on the right track.
• Avoid the common problems that can plague your automated tests by benefitting from my personal experiences.

X Topic Abstract

Model based testing solves many problems associated with traditional test automation. My seminar explains the ins and outs of model based testing, how to approach it and implement it correctly. In MBT a model of the system under test is used to generate a set of test cases to execute rather than typing them up yourself.

This saves time, and every time the SUT changes, only the model needs updating, not the test suite. I explain the taxonomy, characteristics, types of MBT tools. I explain about Test data generation, test suite minimization and test case prioritization. I give an overview of some recent tools used in the industry. A finish the seminar with a short demo of an MBT tool that I built.

Speaker Profile

QA Engineer with 15 years of testing experience, with the last 8 in test automation. Having completed a Masters and Test Automation and built an MBT tool in Java, the speaker is an expert in MBT. He is currently working at Rockend Software as Test Automation Lead, and has led teams of test automators in the past.
