About the event

The Blockchain Summit, organized by the UNICOM will take place on 05th December 2017 Auckland. The Blockchain Conference 2017 will bring together a diverse range of experts who will discuss all the opportunities, challenges and exciting possibilities in innovation and disruption that can be leveraged in Auckland using this technology.

"As revolutionary as it sounds, Blockchain truly is a mechanism to bring everyone to the highest degree of accountability. No more missed transactions, human or machine errors, or even an exchange that was not done with the consent of the parties involved. Above anything else, the most critical area where Blockchain helps is to guarantee the validity of a transaction by recording it not only on a main register but a connected distributed system of registers, all of which are connected through a secure validation mechanism."

Blockchain is a revolutionary technology that minimizes fraud and maximizes efficiency, security & transparency in supply chains, healthcare, global money systems, financial technologies, democratic elections, auction of public assets, energy trading, electronic record authentication, delivery of Government services, IoT and much, much more. Blockchain technology in the information age represents the critical intersection between the financial rails, social networking, and powerful decentralised networks. It is critical for stakeholders to formulate careful legal and business strategies around novel business models as the technology and infrastructure, as well as the corresponding market appetite and regulatory structures, evolve rapidly in disparate global markets.

Conference or Event Schedule

X Topic Abstract

Proof of Work, Proof of Stake and other such systems secure a blockchain at the fundamental level, ensuring that token transfers are immutable and that duplicated token allocations are avoided. Each of these systems has their pros and cons, with the nature of the network dictating the level of security required. It is important to note that blockchain technology was designed for trustless systems, and that the level of trust in your implementation can affect all areas.

In highly distributed secure networks the overhead of securing the network can quickly spiral out of control, even before such issues as performance and scalability are considered. A comparison of Proof of Stake and Proof of Work Networks will be presented, along with an overview of real-world performance differences between the two.

Distribution of the blockchain effectively dictates the scalability of the system, including network requirements, an overview of the more esoteric problems that arise from a lack of distribution will be covered, as well as practical approaches for small to large scale deployments.
