Research Today Can Become Trend Tomorrow – WCNGT Conference

24 Jul

I here take the pleasure to write the experience of my team attending WCNGT-World Conference Next Generation Testing Conference held at hotel Le Meridian on 17.7.2014 &18.7.2014. We are together around seven members who were attending conference for the first time. Very obviously we were very excited to know and see the conference as well. The presenters were among the best practitioners from around the globe, and many attendees travel thousands of miles specifically for this conference.

I think that was the day where we woke up early in the morning after long days. Just to be first for the conference and carry the work assigned. As discussed in the meeting previous day at office all were neatly dressed in Formals and were looking pretty good. It was a proud moment to say we are from UNICOM learning who has organized this event.

Next comes the work…! Yes as we were new to the conference as organizer, we were quite confused to start the work. Very obviously started troubling our seniors…! Gradually came to know what should be done. Conference organizers’ roles vary, but the work encompasses identifying potential business, researching, writing, planning and running all aspects of conferences on behalf of a client or own organization. As well as planning a conference in advance, they will usually be present during the event to deal with any issues as they arise.

The theme for WCNGT – World Conference Next Generation Testing 2014 is “Testing – Leadership, Process & Innovation, Emerging Technologies & Dev-QA-OPS”. The technology we work with changes at a rapid pace. Some testing practices stand the test of time; others become obsolete and irrelevant as the technology changes around them.

The first time coordinating the run was very challenging for us, but we have learned a lot of things along the way. From an event coordinator’s point-of-view, we had our ups and downs and some challenges during the first year. We obviously learned from our mistakes and put systems in place to improve the following conference. The team around us powered through everything and we managed to put in place a better charity run, all arranged on time. We got the word out by using various platforms, including social media – Twitter, Facebook, and Whats App.

What we learnt there was, Conference attendance is an important part of acculturation into the discipline, and one of the best ways to learn what people at other programs are doing and thinking about, one of the best ways to get out of the insular bubble that is your own program. Basically, that it is better to go see a good, smart speaker on a topic of only tangential interest than a bad speaker who is talking about exactly the thing you’re most interested in (in most cases). Making use of such a system of course also means that you check out the conference program ahead of time.

Workshops of WCNGT

Unlike many testing conferences, at WCNGT a third of each presentation is reserved for a “Panel Discuss” question-and-answer session, in which the delegates raise their new questions or questions related to the current panel discuss. With this format, delegates can satisfy their curiosity, raise doubts, and make presenters defend their positions. The conference also included a workshop where we can get hands-on and try out ideas we might have heard about, see how other testers test, and share our own experience. We’ll find testers hanging out in the hallways having in-depth discussions and challenging each other to demonstrate their testing skills. Everything about the environment is designed to support testers who want to excel at their craft.

Delegates Questioning Speakers

Next comes is our experience to take the interviews of Speakers It was pleasure to Interview some of the speakers on the topic they spoke and about future software testing and software testers. Got a chance to know more about testing and what future soft ware testers expect to serve them better by UNICOM with upcoming new topics.

We got a chance to meet Speakers like Mr.Diwakar Menon, Mr.Sharath Kumar, Mr. Santhosh Tuppad, Mr. Ranganath Naykar and few delegates who came from different organizations.

Few words of Mr.Diwakar Menon “Event is well organised, panel discussion was good, it was a mix of each of us bringing a new technology what skills need for the future and what kind of technology need to be implemented and also what skill testers need to improve and also I would to love to see academic research on testing -this can be a Research Today and it may become Trend Tomorrow”.

There were many instances we felt happy about! Dr.Shankar Ramamoorthy walked up to us and said you people are doing great coordination. The best most enjoyed part of the conference was listening to one of the speakers named Santosh Tuppad. He actually looked too young to probably speak and educate many software testers there. After announcing his session on stage he said “I don’t want to only present but I wanna Rock “! All that we were thinking was how could he present? Reason being he looked very young .And then he started speaking! It was so interactive and interesting we wanted to only listen more to what he had to convey!! He carried a very simple approach to convey what he wanted to; we also understood the technical things he explained non-technically! That was completely impressive and he did do what he said he just rocked!! WCNGT to us was an experience filled with Happiness, when spoke to Mr. Ranganath Naykar came to know about upcoming mobiles of Samsung and new medical equipments of Samsung, which sounds very interesting.

When spoke to delegates from different organisations, we got very good suggestions to improve our organisation and new topics what UNICOM should come up with.

The interesting part of the WCNGT was Indian Testing League – ITL finals. Though we didn’t understood most of the Question and Answers as well. But some answer we guessed was correct at that time we were at cloud nine…..

The exhibition was a great success, with exhibitors professing great satisfaction with their stand and all the support they received.
