X Topic Abstract

Unstructured data represents more than 90 percent of today’s data; and comes in many forms, such as electronic journal articles, comments within employee engagement systems, recorded audio conversations within CRM systems, conversations within social media, and many other diverse forms. Visualizing unstructured data is useful for identifying connections and patterns within the data which would otherwise be difficult to discern, and to communicate information clearly and efficiently to others for better decision making. This talk focuses on 10 ways to effectively visualize your unstructured data by exploring different analytical approaches and visualization techniques; and drawing upon their current usage within social sciences research.

X Topic Abstract

The internet is awash of publicly available datasets that can provide deep insight into financial, societal, political and historical aspects of our everyday lives. These datasets may also contain information that, when combined with private datasets, provide additional context in analytics and improved predictability in machine learning models.

However, these datasets are often hard to find, poorly formatted and documented, and difficult to consume both by humans and machine. In this session Tony will take the audience through a tour of the abundance of information available publicly, showcasing interesting datasets through various data visualisation tools and techniques.

This session has no technical prerequisites, just a love of data and storytelling.
