Internet of things is a buzz word today. It is expected that by 2020 we will have 50 billion devices connected to the Internet and IoT is expected to be a trillion doller industry. While there are lot of fun applications of IoT, in this talk we explore how IoT can solve problems of common man and make their life better. Mr.Pranav Pai Vernekar is the founder of Inventrom and has an experience of 4 years in Technology R&D as well as Technology Management. Mr.Pranav Pai Vernekar has completed his graduation in Electronics and Telecommunication from Goa Engineering College which was followed by an MBA from Goa Institute of Management.

He has five years of experience in the field of Robotics, IoT and Automation. Pranav has been working as a product designer at Inventrom and has worked on projects like the Topping Pi (Patent Pending) which is an IoT accessory to Raspberry Pi, patented for design of Zazu Wireless Programmer and is currently he is working the NetPlug (a B2B IoT product) and Event Bot (Robot that can click photos and post them on social media autonomusly). NetPlug which is an IoT device that can be fitted with any Appliance to make it IoT enabled. NetPlug has won the IoT Tech10 award for being amongst the best upcoming IoT products.

Mr. Pranav Pai Vernekar has an extensive teaching experience and till date he has been invited to conduct trainings at various institutes such as IIT Kanpur, IIT Rorkee, BITS Pilani etc as well as for his corporate clients such as CISCO, Intel, Applied Material, TCS, NETZSCH, Siemens etc. Pranav has also conducted workshops at conferences such as NullCon, VLSI Society of India Symposium, Automation and Robotics Expo and has trained more then 2000 working professionals and students on the topic of Raspberry Pi and Internet of Things till date.

IoT is conceptually considered as the devices talking to cloud application. Give the rate at which things would communicate the push on network would be high, which would lead to latency in decision making. The future has to be smart with best usage of network and this lead to growth of flexible system where the decision should be made locally with the devices we are surrounded with in future. The devices would be much powerful as compared to what we have seen and much of the computing can be done around us instead of everything leading to cloud infrastructure. Safe Cities are an integral part of Smart cities and the foundation of every solution is IOT/M2M. Like Big Data, Video data Analytics is a core component of Safe cities Government, Municipalities & Law enforcement agencies today require advanced solutions to proactively assess, investigate and manage high risk situations to ensure public safety of the highest standard.
Indian context for smart city is different from any developed countries due to the reasons such as developed countries have well established infrastructure and have defined procedures and SOP in place already. Indian conditions are different due to lack of infrastructure, traffic conditions (like lane driving, discipline, more two wheelers etc.), network connectivity, availability of citizen data base, infrastructure for monitoring / control etc.
Hence, it is better to have smart city components, procedures etc. designed and developed specifically to meet Indian conditions. The presentation will focus on the aspects of Surveillance and safety for smart cities and what it will deliver. It will also cover role of intelligent video analytics ,intelligent image processing, for Indian operating conditions with a live example of intelligent traffic management case study of traffic junctions at Indore covering Red Light Violation Detection(RLVD) with e-challan. The Indore police has collected over a crores of rupees in the last six months of automating and using the above system which is a landmark example in the Indian context of IOT applications.

With the evolution of the converged & networked society, further fueled by the 'Internet of Things' era, a multitude of new applications of the Information & Communication Technologies have changed the way we live, work, play, interact and even think… The Heterogeneity of the IoT paradigm has made it imperative to have a fresh look on the prevalent architectures & frameworks of the ICT Infrastructure being deployed or being developed.
Today, the smart nodes of one network cannot talk to smart nodes of the other networks. A wide array of 'proprietary systems/solutions', or 'systems/solutions with very limited interoperability' are being deployed in each application areas for todays' Home Automation, Building Automation, Industrial Automation or even the Infrastructure Automation needs of the society. In this context, we need to redefine our individual perspectives of smart home, smart grid, smart building and smart cities. Now, it is imperative for them to work in close harmony with each other to enable & achieve the homogenous functioning of the smart infrastructure in any given geographical territory.
This paper comprehensively enumerates the problems being caused by lack of Standardized, Harmonized, Unified & Secure ICT Infrastructure, which is the backbone of any Infrastructure being deployed in a Smart City. It further discusses the implications of End-to-End Security in the IoT Signal Chain.
It emphasizes the need for an End-to-End Unified Solution approach along with Architecture and Protocols derived from, and based on ONLY the open standards developed or being developed by the global SDOs to achieve the similar goals to address the upcoming paradigm of Internet of Things. The interoperability required under this approach is comprehensive, including but not limited to ‘Semantic’ as well as ‘Syntactic’ interoperability.

To seize the IoT high ground, QA organizations need to view software testing beyond devices and sensors, and think holistically about added technical complexity that comes with the huge volumes, velocity and variety of data generated across a smart and connected ecosystem.
The presentation will focus on a smart IoT QA embracing the QA techniques of Embedded and Software world, crowd enabled QA, test data simulation of complex sensor conditions and an integrated automation covering all touch points of the IoT system.

In his capacity as an AVP of product engineering, Piyush works with clients to shape up the vision for their next generation products and then works with the delivery managers to implement the vision right. In the last few years, he has worked with some of the prime names in the eCommerce, Mobility and IoT space in India, US and the UK revolving around creating next generation products in these domains. Piyush has also established and leads the India Design Labs of GlobalLogic with design teams across GlobalLogic centers in India.
During his tenure at GloablLogic in the last twelve years, Piyush has always been rated among the very top performers and has won CEO and CTO leadership awards regularly. Owing to his initial years as a Java architect, he is passionate about looking a level deeper to find the optimal solutions. His clients respect him not just as the delivery owner of the offshore team but as one who would bring incisive and creative value to the product itself.
