Countdown to the conference

Background

The rise of cryptocurrencies has disrupted the global financial landscape, presenting new opportunities and challenges for individuals, businesses, and regulators. As the crypto industry continues to evolve, navigating the regulatory regime surrounding cryptocurrencies has become a pressing concern. Governments and regulatory bodies are grappling with the task of establishing appropriate frameworks to govern cryptocurrencies, striking a balance between consumer protection, financial stability, and innovation.

Focus

The one-day online conference on ” Crypto: Navigating the Regulatory Regime” aims to provide a comprehensive platform for professionals, experts, and enthusiasts to explore the complex regulatory landscape surrounding cryptocurrencies. The conference will delve into the challenges and opportunities associated with navigating the regulatory regime and highlight the implications of recent developments, such as the call by a powerful cross-party group of MPs in the UK to treat crypto as gambling rather than a financial service.

This conference will bring together industry leaders, regulatory experts, legal professionals, policymakers, and other stakeholders to share insights, exchange ideas, and discuss best practices. Participants will gain a deep understanding of the evolving regulatory environment and learn how to navigate the challenges associated with compliance, risk management, and legal frameworks in the crypto industry.

Key topics to be covered during the conference include:

  • Current regulatory landscape for cryptocurrencies in the APAC region and globally
  • Implications of treating crypto as gambling rather than a financial service, as proposed by the UK MPs
  • Compliance challenges and considerations for businesses operating in the crypto space
  • Anti-money laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations in the crypto industry
  • Investor protection and consumer rights in the context of cryptocurrencies
  • Blockchain and Crypto and their relationship to (i) legacy fund transfer systems and (ii) secure digital fund transfer
  • Regulatory approaches to Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) and token offerings
  • Taxation and reporting requirements for individuals and businesses involved in crypto transactions
  • The role of technology in facilitating regulatory compliance, such as blockchain analytics and surveillance tools
  • Case studies and best practices in navigating the regulatory regime for cryptocurrencies
  • Future trends and potential regulatory developments in the crypto industry

Through informative presentations, panel discussions, interactive sessions, and networking opportunities, participants will gain valuable insights, practical strategies, and actionable recommendations to navigate the regulatory challenges associated with cryptocurrencies.

The conference aims to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and thought leadership, contributing to the development of a transparent, secure, and compliant crypto ecosystem.
