Internet of Things (IoT) is where physical objects are seamlessly integrated into the information network in different areas like “Industrial, Automotive, Consumer, Medical, Networking and Computing”. The typical usage would be authentication of entities, integrity and secured communication. Many attempts have been made by writing software for security. However software code can be reverse engineered and can be modified to the requirements of an attacker.
We need a security model that provides comprehensive Root of Trust in a system. Only based on the Root of Trust it is possible to protect the entire platform. Hardware based security at platform level balances security requirements between hardware and software. Secure hardware protects the code manipulation. Software becomes trustworthy by combining it with secured hardware. Root of Trust utilizing Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) makes seamless integration in IoT applications.

With the advent of the Internet of Things, it is easy to generate information, including the emergency alerts, however it is crucial how we propagate the emergency alerts to the people and other stakeholders. The proposal is to build the next generation emergency warning system (EWS). In this new EWS various sensor systems that generate alerts/warnings/information are seamlessly integrated into Telecom/private IP network (typically built on heterogeneous networks) for providing emergency warnings, alerts and other public safety related information to the citizens under the control of respective public authorities. I will be discussing the EWS architecture and how the information can be delivered to relevant stakeholders so that the stakeholders can act early to save costs and lives.Speaker Profile
